One year ago, Lucy came to our oncology team after she was diagnosed with lymphoma. She completed her chemotherapy in September. This April, we celebrated on the 1 year anniversary of her diagnosis — only because she is still in complete remission! We are more than thrilled. ♥️🐾

It’s not often that our patients are eye-to-eye with us at the front desk. Minno can almost check himself in!

Henry came into MVS on April 22nd unable to walk.

Henry came into MVS on April 22nd unable to walk. His family had noticed he wasn’t normal about a week before, but he wasn’t yet showing the severe signs of IVDD. Luckily, they were very in tune with his behavior and the moment he needed specialty care he was on his way to us.

After a thorough exam, Dr. Lau and the neurology team performed an MRI to confirm their suspicion - Henry had an intervertebral disc herniation at L2-L3 with spinal cord compression on the right side.

Next was surgery, performed immediately after the MRI in an operating suite. Dr. Lau performed a hemilaminectomy to remove the herniated disc material and relieve the compression.

The rest was up to Henry and his wonderful family. Exactly two weeks later he came back to us for a recheck and we were so happy with his progress. He is a sweet boy and we’re glad he’s back on his feet.🐾♥️

It’s Veterinary Receptionist Week! 💙

Here at MVS, our “front of the house” team members are known as Client Care Specialists—because they do so much more than greet clients and answer phones.

In an ER & specialty hospital like ours, they are the steady voice during emergencies, the calm in stressful moments, and the essential link connecting every department. From handling urgent ER calls to coordinating complex specialty care, they do it all with compassion, efficiency, and heart.

They’re often the first person you speak to—working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

Our ER Coordinators (bottom row) are both front and back of the house — a job that takes more patience and ability to prioritize who needs help the most without letting anyone down — all at one time. Their work it integral to the client and patient care service we pride ourselves on delivering.

This week (and always, really) we celebrate and thank our Client Care Team for their dedication, kindness, and the incredible care they provide to our patients, clients, and team every single day.

Within the last few weeks, we had some really good boys complete their chemotherapy protocols! They are both in remission.

Samson is owned and loved by our criticalist, Dr. Finstad and her husband. Finn has unfortunately become a regular here, coming out of remission multiple times and having to restart chemotherapy. As much as we absolutely adore him, we hope this time sticks! Finn and his family are such troopers through it all. ♥️🐾

Three weeks ago, Bentley came in unable to walk. He had lost the ability to use all four of his legs. He quickly had an MRI and a ventral slot surgery with Dr. Lau and the neurology team. We saw him last week- just two weeks post op - and he was up and on the go! We are so happy to see how quickly he’s improving - and so is his family!

Having access to extracorporeal therapy (dialysis)

Having access to extracorporeal therapy (dialysis) at our hospital for over a year now has been a game changer for patients…and these stories will never get old.

This is Miss Ruby. After 8 days in the hospital battling an incredibly severe case of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), she is finally heading home!

Her journey required intensive, around-the-clock care — including therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), a highly specialized, life-saving treatment that helps remove harmful antibodies from the bloodstream. Madison Veterinary Specialists is proud to be the only hospital in Wisconsin offering currently offering this advanced therapy.

Through it all, Ruby showed incredible strength, and her dedicated care team never stopped fighting for her. In these photos, you can see her dramatic progress.

Today, we celebrate an amazing victory. Seeing Ruby walk out of the hospital is exactly why we do what we do.
